Nathan Cleverly will fight in a matchup against Badou Jack as he defends his world title, as he insists that on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor will prove the “genuine fight” despite the next week’s “freak show.”
Cleverly will make his first defense of his WBA light-heavyweight title as chief support of the Mayweather vs McGregor at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena on August 26, but he is the 3/1 outsider with Sky Bet.
Badou Jack is the ¼, and it’s his first time at 175lbs, having built his prestige at super-middleweight class by defeating George Groves. And in January, he fought James DeGale and decision was a draw.
What we look forward to an entertaining and physical boxing match will like likely provide an opposite match between Mayweather and McGregor, when the Irishman fight in boxing as professional for the first time.
Sergey Kovalev, Tony Bellew, Andrzej Fonfara and Juergen Braehmer are among those fighters Cleverly had punished in a fight before signing against Sweden’s Jack, inside that, he also believed that McGregor doesn't deserve his big chance.
Cleverly said, “You’ve got the real, real fight between myself and Jack.”
“Two genuine, world-class operators putting on the line. This could be the real fight of the night, and I’m looking to capitalize on that. Mayweather vs McGregor is one of these once-in-a-blue-moon fantasy lights: it’s captured the public’s imagination.
“As we ready, even though it’s not time yet, I was always getting ready for August 26, so it made no difference to me. Either way, whether it was a ploy or not, we’re trained up 100 cents, ready to do business and get home. Maybe it would help (to speak to Grove or DeGale), but he is what he is, I know his style, I’ve seen enough of him.”
“Regardless of any advice, It’s down to me, and I’m confident too with myself.”
